Pick only fully red fruits, as they won’t ripen further once picked
Lift off the bird netting and pick strawberries every day to keep the crop ripening and to enjoy the fruits at their sweetest. Choose only fully ripe berries that are red all over. Hold the fruit gently with one hand and twist it off the stalk – you’ll hear a satisfying snap when it comes off with the calyx intact.
Use a shallow punnet or basket to hold your harvest and place the fruit in carefully to avoid bruising. Pull out any weeds and look out for slugs as you work through the crop.
