Alfred MunningsFelling a Tree in the Voges, 1918, oil on canvas, 20x24in. (51x61cm)

Alfred Munnings

There’s a treat in store at the National Army Museum, London, as a collection of paintings by Sir Alfred Munnings returns to England for the first time since 1919. The paintings feature portraits, pastoral landscapes and, of course, equine subjects for which the artist is most celebrated, dating from 1918 when he was commissioned by the Canadian War Memorials Fund as an official war artist. The exhibition is accompanied by a book, Alfred Munnings: Memory, The War Horse and the Canadians in 1918 by Dr. Jonathan Black as well as a public programme of events at the National Army Museum; Munnings: War Artist, 1918 is at the National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea SW3, until 3 March.
