The closing of Borderline Records in March 2014 was a blow felt by many. Brighton is celebrated for the wealth of its record shops and Borderline was the one you went to for all things psych/folk/ Americana. Situated in The Lanes, Borderline was run by Dave Minns and Sian Davis from 1981. As all great record shops do, it reflected its owners’ musical enthusiasms.
The walls were covered in original posters for concerts by West Coast US bands from the late 1960s, alongside all manner of Robert Crumb art. Indeed, if I ever heard there was a new compilation album out featuring Crumb’s cover art I would head straight for Borderline.
