I am always amazed by the variety of bears we include in each issue of Teddy Bear Times & Friends. Whether you love a traditional bruin or have a hug full of artist bears (probably a mixture of both!), the diversity of designs within each style of bear is just wonderful. I love receiving the Meet the Artist features and reading about the inspiration behind the designs. It is important for every artist to find their own style of course, something that makes their bears stand out and call to all of us who collect bears and critters. But with a basic bear, I think you could have one pattern and a dozen bear makers and no two bears would be alike, as long as everyone had free rein to use whatever materials they liked.
Take the bear’s nose for example: there are so many different ways to add a nose to your bear. (See Julie Shepherd’s article in this and previous issues for ideas and guidance). Then there is the length of pile, color of the fur, clothing, accessories…the possibilities are endless! Have a think about what makes a bear special to you…perhaps you have a theme in your hug that you didn’t realize existed!
