Have you been a victim of vegaphobia? How have you reacted?
We asked for your experiences of anger against veganism
Think back to January, when Gregg’s brought out their vegan sausage roll — there was an angry uproar on Twitter and Facebook, with abuse aimed at vegans from those claiming Gregg’s is not a place for plant-based purchasers (Piers Morgan became especially vocal, and has since continued to slate the lifestyle on national television).
Sadly, veganism can and does inspire hate from some people (just as it frequently inspires love and respect). Generally, this abhorrence comes from non-vegans who do not understand or agree with the reasons that we choose to abstain from meat and dairy, and sometimes, they feel so strongly about it, that they project their feelings back at vegans. ‘Vegaphobia’ is the term that is used to describe this movement of ‘anti-veganism’ — it details the people who are so against it, that they will even mock or shout at you for your beliefs.
