The fifteenth free-to-enter Wergle Flomp Poetry Competition is now open to submissions of original humorous poetry from poets around the world, with a deadline of 1 April. First prize is $1,000, with $100 for second, and ten honourable mentions of $100 each. All winners will be published on the Winning Writers website and announced in the Winning Writing Newsletter, which has a circulation of over 50,000.
Wergle Flomp is a creation of poet David Taub, who submitted his poem Flubblebop to the North American Open Poetry Contest, run by US vanity publishing website poetry.com. It was a semi-finalist and an inspiration for the Wergle Flomp competition, which will accept not just humorous poems but also poems of inspired gibberish.
Only one entry per person is permitted. Poems that have been published or won a prize elsewhere will be considered, as will simultaneous submissions. There are no age restrictions on entry but all poems should be written in English, or be an English translation, and be no more than 250 lines long.
