Helen Corner-Bryant
Q A few months ago a major agent requested my full MS having read some sample material in an anthology. I’ve nudged her twice for an update – I’ve been polite and grateful for her time – and she’s replied twice giving me a date for her response. Each time the deadline goes by and I don’t hear anything. I’m now at a loss as to what to do. I find that there is a power imbalance in the writer-seekingagent/ agent relationship and it’s frustrating. I understand the conflicting demands an agent has on their time – I absolutely do. But nothing’s going to convince me it excuses missing self-imposed deadlines. And not even dropping the person a quick email to let them know you’re going to miss it just feels a bit… off. Should I give it one last ‘nudge’ or just leave it and move on? AYou’re the second author within 24 hours to email me with the same dilemma and I probably get a few of these a week.
