Trend Alert... woodland

Give your home an autumnal woodland feel this season
Background wallpaper Wind Flowers 213713 wallpaper, £39 per roll, Sanderson

This warm autumnal trend is perfect for bringing comfort into our homes, and it’s the colours, textures and materials used that combine to create this intense cosiness.

Start by deciding on your colour palette. Do you want a warm scheme of mustard, rich red and burnt orange, combined with subtle grey? Or do you prefer a fresher look using mossy green, berry red and earthy tones?

Whichever colours you decide on, the accessories you choose are key. The look should have an artisanal edge to it with handcrafted qualities such as hand-carved woods, patchwork quilts and lino and sponge prints. Textures should add to the warm and toasty feel – choose faux furs, felts, knits and soft natural wools, in tartans, checks and leafy prints.

This look is also a little playful and eccentric, so add a few fun hedgerow characters such as foxes, rabbits, badgers, birds, hedgehogs and owls.

About Your Home Magazine

Well, autumn is well and truly upon us but I think there’s something quite comforting about the nights drawing in, and having the chance to curl up on the sofa in front of a roaring fire. In this issue we’ve got plenty of great ideas for making your home super cosy for the coming months. If you’re thinking of replacing your flooring with something warmer, or more stylish, underfoot then make sure you read our fantastic eight-page special on page 36 where we take a look at all the latest designs for floors. Meanwhile, on page 18, you can discover how to use this season’s woodland trend to create the ultimate cosy scheme for autumn. While our craft section this month has even more woodland-inspired projects to add the perfect finishing touches to your home (p.60). Does your kitchen need a quick revamp before it gets busy in the run-up to Christmas? Then take a look at our round-up of the latest looks for worktops and splashbacks (p.50) – you’ll be amazed how easy and affordable it is to give your kitchen a whole new look with this one simple change. If you have young kids, or family with mobility problems, then making your bathroom safe for them can often mean compromising on design, but our feature on page 56 shows you can combine form with function for a bathroom that still packs a style punch. Finally, if the weather starts to turn cold outside, turn to page 100 for some wonderful, warming comfort food recipes.
