75th celebration
While the return to Le Mans didn’t pan out to be
the addition to Jaguar’s 75th anniversary year the
marque had hoped it would be, there is, of course,
still much to celebrate – and in this issue we’re
doing just that.
As well as a detailed look at the origins of the
fi rst Jaguars, a review of the current range and a
fascinating insight into the life of company founder,
Sir William Lyons, we’ve also brought together eight
Jaguars – one from each decade that those 75
years have spanned – and driven them back-toback
on one day. The ride starts on page 24, but
here I wanted to share with you just one interesting
part of the day, which happened when we arrived
with all eight cars in convoy at Gaydon, Jaguar Land
Rover’s headquarters. Parked up temporarily on the
site’s main thoroughfare while waiting clearance to
head out to the test area, none other than Carl-Peter
Forster and Dr Ralf Speth, newly appointed CEOs
for Tata Motors and JLR respectively, headed out to
take a look.
Both were wide-eyed with enthusiasm, which
was heartening to see, and indeed it is Dr Speth
who apparently asked Jaguar’s engineers to create
the exclusive and rapid XKR 75 that you can read
about on page 8. I don’t know about you, but the
fact that such senior fi gures within Tata and JLR are
clearly car enthusiasts too makes me feel all the
more positive about Jaguar’s future. Here’s to the
next 75 years.
