Knitting  |  Issue 208
Once again I write to you, unable to imagine where you might be when you get this note. At this moment I’ve been working from home for twelve weeks, the lockdown in the UK has been lifted to some extent, and we’re cautiously stepping through our doorways, wondering if we feel quite safe in the big world outside.
The Coronavirus pandemic has been disastrous for the world’s economies as well as for all those individuals suffering illness, grief and stress as a result of the virus itself and its fallout. But it has also opened up new opportunities and connections, many of which I hope will continue into a post-lockdown world.
Events such as Virtual Knitting Live, the online version of Vogue Knitting Live, made classes and lectures by brilliant teachers more accessible than they have ever been before, while online knit nights were able to unite likeminded crafters from all over the globe. I also discovered YouTube yoga, a Zoom gospel choir and live online music gigs, almost all of which I could enjoy while knitting (not the yoga).
The striking photos of model Michiel Mhangami in an aqua-themed collection in this issue were taken the week before UK prime minister Boris Johnson announced the lockdown – and on my last day in the Knitting office, the day I went home with my computer in a shopping bag cushioned with knitted shawls, wondering when I would return.
But the beautiful knits are just as appealing today as they were then, and I hope that when you have read through this issue you will find the perfect design to knit. We have a light, summery feel with beautiful T-shirts and delicate, textured shawls, all in one of the top trend shades for this season.
