SALFORD RED DEVILS recorded their highest ever Super League points tally with a stunning 12-try destruction of a youthful Castleford Tigers.
Richard Marshall’s side had picked up only two wins from their first eleven matches and were by far the division’s lowest scorers heading to West Yorkshire.
Throw in the fact that they needed two loanees to make up a squad of 17 and had only six players in training earlier in the week following a Covid outbreak, and to say this result couldn’t be seen coming would be the understatement of the season.
Even accounting for a Castleford side with both eyes on Saturday’s Challenge Cup final, handing debuts to five Academy players, this was still a staggering score.
Marshall remained grounded despite the history-making result, saying: “It was a real professional performance, albeit against an understrength young Castleford team.
