SAINTS SURVIVE STRONG TRINITY CHALLENGE
WAKEFIELD TRINITY 14 HELENS 30
CALLUM WALKER
Mobile Rocket Stadium, Friday
St Helens’s Regan Grace is tackled by Wakefield’s Mason Lino and Joe Westerman
THE song that the St Helens faithful sing, “Lachlan Coote, he’s the reason”, rang true on a dreadful Yorkshire evening as the Hull KR-bound playmaker registered 18 points and ran Wakefield ragged at times.
Coote proved the difference between the two sides, but Wakefield gave as good as they got and were definitely not embarrassed against a St Helens side preparing for Wembley.
Trinity hadn’t played for a fortnight, with their last outing a 14-6 victory over Wigan, giving them four victories in their last six games.
Saints also beat the Warriors last time out, triumphing 24-6 in last Sunday’s derby.
Matty Lees and Joel Thompson returned for them, with Theo Fages and Ben Davies sitting out the game and youngster Lewis Dodd starting the game at halfback.
It was Trinity that started the brighter of the two sides, forcing a drop-out in the opening five minutes, but that came to nought as the rain started to pour down.
