ROUND-UP
WHO anticipated the Broncos defeating South Sydney at the Accor Stadium?
Adam Reynolds returned to his old stomping ground with incredible effect, showing exactly why he should have been kept on at Souths as Brisbane inflicted one of the upsets of the year with an almost faultless performance.
Corey Oates got the ball rolling for the Broncos in the 14th minute before Reynolds came back to haunt his old side with a try just before the half-hour mark.
The Rabbitohs did reply though through Taane Milne as Brisbane led 12-6 at halftime.
Selwyn Cobbo extended Brisbane’s lead on 51 minutes after picking up a knock-on by Blake Taaffe, but Souths hit back once more when Milne grabbed his second.
18-12 up soon became 20-12 for the Broncos when Reynolds added a penalty, with Herbie Farnworth finishing expertly to inflate the scoreline even further just after the hour.
And things got even worse for the Rabbitohs when Cobbo intercepted and sprinted over 90 metres for the score of the night.
Reynolds was again on target with the conversion to maintain his 100 per cent record and, in doing so, he registered half of Brisbane’s points on a triumphant evening for the Queensland club.
A CLASSIC it was not, but a priceless two points for Canberra it certainly was.
With just two wins under their belt so far in 2022 going into this one, the pressure was on Ricky Stuart and the Raiders, but, buoyed by a superb performance at halfback from Matt Frawley and the timely return of stalwart Jarrod Croker, the home side were fully deserving of their victory over a misfiring Canterbury.
