Line and wash combines both drawing with a strong line and the looseness of watercolour to create fast and impressionistic paintings. It was particularly popular as a medium in the 1960s and 1970s. Artists who worked with line and wash include Edward Wesson and Rowland Hilder, however, there is now a resurgence of this technique, especially within the urban sketcher movement.
