THE TROGGS

Never the most fashionable band, even at the height of their powers, The Troggs are pictured outside the Take Six boutique in Wardour Street, Soho. The reason why Ronnie Bond, Peter Staples, Chris Britton and Reg Presley look quite so delighted is they were promised £1,000 worth of clothes by shop owner Sid Brent if they released a single which made the UK Top Five. With the band’s second single Wild Thing at No. 2 in the charts, the fancy threads were in the bag. This was 1966 and Andover’s finest managed to hit the Top Five on two further occasions that year with I Can’t Control Myself (“Your slacks are low and your hips are showing”) and With A Girl Like You.
