LONG LIVE VINYL EDITOR’S CHOICE
Whatever happened to youth tribes? There were times when you may have got a kicking for having the wrong haircut, but at least it kept you on your toes. In 1967, while long locks and tie-dye were the order of the day in the States, over here the kids (OK, some of the kids) were getting their barnets cropped and squeezing their bony arses into Sta Prest jeans. Needless to say, they weren’t listening to The Grateful Dead either. Taking their cue from the Windrush generation, the skins and suedes were dancing to ska and rocksteady 45s from Jamaica. This excellent boxset comprising of ten 7" scorching facsimilie singles from the era (1967-1973) is a pitch-perfect document of those times. Compiled by Paul ‘Smiler’ Anderson and Mark Baxter, it’s the ideal companion to their definitive book on the original skinhead scene.
