WHAT IS A DICKY?
Discover all about this fashion feature commonly found in vintage patterns
A dicky is an inset piece of fabric that is used to protect the wearer’s modesty. In womenswear fashion they have been used since the 1940s. They serve two purposes – to cover parts of the chest or neckline or to add extra flair to a garment. Dickys can be made in the same fabric as the main garment for a seamless finish, or why not try a contrast dicky? You could choose a different colour fabric or could even add some embellishment such as ruffles, lace or embroidery for a more couture feel.
