efore 2001, nobody cared about earphones. Really, they were mere afterthoughts compared to whatever device they were plugged into. The prevailing logic of the time was that earphones should be heard, but not seen. All that changed however when Apple introduced the iPod. It decided to make the bundled earphone the same bold ‘Apple white’ colour as the iPod itself and it’s quite possible that this simple design decision was the key to the iPod’s success.
