Intel announces Thunderbolt 5
Likely coming to Macs and iPads in 2024 or 2025
Intel has introduced Thunderbolt 5, the latest version of its Thunderbolt connectivity standard, which will go live at some point in 2024. The company promises this will double the bidirectional data transfer rate from 40Gbps to 80Gbps. That should make it a more interesting change than the upgrade from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 4, when data transfer rates remained the same.
