H.265 YOUR TIME IS UP
iPHONE VIDEO CODEC TO MAKE WAY FOR H.266?
Germany’s Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute is famous for many things, most notably the MP3 audio codec, and H.265 - the video codec that Apple adopted in iOS 11. More recently, the Institute’s been developing H.266 Versatile Video Coding (VVC), which it says is 50% more efficient than H.265. This means it would only take 5GB of data to transmit a 90-minute Ultra High Definition movie, rather than the 10GB it would take in H.265.
