New M2-powered laptops
World’s two best–selling laptops get the latest Apple silicon
APPLE IS CONTINUING the rollout of Apple silicon with the introduction of two new laptop models built around a next-generation M2 processor.
Apple says MacBook Air is the world’s best-selling laptop, and the new M2-based model, starting at $1,199, boasts an all-new, even thinner design with an astonishing 20% less volume than the previous model, plus a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display. It is available in a choice of four finishes: silver, space gray, midnight, and starlight.
The new model loses the wedgeshaped design, which is replaced by an all-aluminum unibody enclosure measuring a mere 11.3mm (less than half an inch) thick and weighing just 2.7 pounds. There is no fan inside — thanks to the M2’s power efficiency, it runs cool and silent even under load. Despite the larger display, Apple claims the same 18 hours of battery life as the previous model.
