> Monitor app updates
Is there a free app to monitor which of my apps need to be updated?
Enable Show Unsupported Apps in Latest’s View menu, and it’ll also list those you’ll need to manage individually.
This is a feature of several paid–for apps such as MacPaw’s CleanMyMac, ($39.95 annual subscription, https://cleanmymac.com), but we can find only one free and open–source app that does this: Latest from https://max.codes/latest. To keep most apps up to date is quite a challenge, as there’s no central database of app versions. MacPaw and other commercial services maintain their own, although even theirs can’t be completely comprehensive.
Latest works for App Store apps, which are already easy to keep up to date in their app, and those that use the Sparkle update mechanism, which is popular, but by no means universal among those providing notarized apps, so you’ll still need to keep a separate watch on others.
