Apple announces updated iMac and all–new Mac mini
APPLE HAS INTRODUCED an updated iMac with M4 processor and an all– new, redesigned Mac mini line with M4 and new M4 Pro chips.
The redesigned Mac mini has a footprint of just 5x5 inches —still a bit bigger than an Apple TV 4K, but over 2.5 inches less each way than the previous generation Mac mini, and about half an inch taller at 2 inches high. It starts at $599 —the same as before, but now with 16GB of unified memory —twice as much as before.
The M4 chip has a 10–core CPU and 10–core GPU, delivering up to 1.8x faster CPU performance and 2.2x faster GPU performance over the M1 model, according to Apple. It also brings hardware–accelerated ray tracing to the Mac mini for the first time, and the 16–core Neural Engine will support Apple Intelligence.
The top–of–the–line model, from $1,399 with 24GB of unified memory and 512GB storage, introduces the M4 Pro chip, with 12–core CPU and 16–core GPU. This is configurable up to a 14–core CPU for “phenomenal multithreaded performance” and a 20–core GPU. M4 Pro supports 64GB of memory and 273GB/s of memory bandwidth, and the
