CHESS IS HUNDREDS of years old, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t still dreaming up new ways to play it. One good example is Chess Peace, and it presents an ingenious new way to enjoy the game of kings.
The idea is to place the pieces you’re given on to the board so that none can capture any others. Instead of playing aggressively, you have to indulge your pacifist side, positioning pieces out of harm’s way. That’s much easier said than done given the restricted nature of the gameplay area. Every level in Chess Peace works like a cutaway slice of a regular chessboard, albeit with an irregular shape. That means you only have limited options for placement, and there’s only ever one solution, which is as demanding as it is satisfying.
