Manage passwords on iPhone, iPad, and Watch
Make password management simpler by ensuring you can securely access your vault on your mobile devices
Manage your Apple ID
Given your Apple ID gives full access to your Apple services, it’s crucial it’s secured with a strong password — one you can store in your password manager. Tap Settings (iOS), open System Prefs (macOS), or log into appleid.apple.com in a browser, then tap your Apple ID followed byPassword & Security. You’ll see when it was last changed — consider doing so every 12 months or so.
Password management on your mobile devices is virtually identical to that on your Mac — unsurprising, as many of your passwords are required to unlock online accounts across all the devices you own. With that in mind, it pays to choose a password management tool that can be deployed across all your devices.
If you put your faith in your macOS’s Keychain for password storage, then the good news is that this is easily extended to your Apple mobile devices using iCloud Keychain, which is linked to your Apple ID. You’ll have been prompted to enable iCloud Keychain on your iPhone or iPad when your first set it up; if you skipped that step previously, switch it on via Settings > your account > iCloud > Keychain. Be sure to verify it’s set up on your Mac too — do so via System Prefs > Apple ID > iCloud — to ensure your passwords (including changes) are synced across all your Apple devices.
