Audio AI watermark
Meta has an AI watermarking system called AudioSeal that can add and then detect watermarks in audio data. The digital tell-tales are distributed across the data, too small to be noticed by the human ear, but easy for an AI system to detect. Early tests show 90 percent accuracy. However, Meta has no plans to use watermarks in its AudioBox or VoiceBox tools. Why not? Online disinformation is a real and growing problem. A universal standard would be ideal—until then, something is better than nothing. At least Meta has new a policy of labeling AI content. It’s a start, but more robust embedded watermarks for AI content are needed. AudioSeal is available on GitHub if you want a peek.
