Boston Dynamics Sold
The makers of quirky walking robots, Boston Dynamics, has been sold to Hyundai for $921 million. The company was born out of an MIT project in 1992, and has been working on robots ever since, although it has only just started selling its first commercial bot, the Spot, a dog-like quadruped. The company was owned by Softbank, which bought it from Google in 2017. Hyundai will be a good fit for Boston Dynamics— the company’s previous owners (especially Google) didn’t really know what to do with it. Hyundai is a major player in robotics, and Boston Dynamics is the world leader in walking robots. If you haven’t seen the company’s robots in action, they are amazing.
