Background Checks
I’m a longtime reader of your fine magazine, and hope to continue subscribing. However, your recent issue, April 2023, contains many pages I simply can’t read. Beginning on page 74 until page 85, you’ve chosen to print the bulk of the text on dark green backgrounds and black text. This is impossible to read for me. I would implore you to use white or light yellow text when using a dark background—there needs to be substantial contrast between the text and the background. Similarly, if you are using a light background then black or dark blue would be most appropriate. Please have consideration for your readers that are over 40!

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, GUY COCKER, RESPONDS: We’ve had a lot of feedback from people on the last couple of issues, and let me apologize to anyone who had trouble reading the copy. I’ve discussed this with our designer Fraser, and rest assured, we’ll be using a more readable color scheme going forward. Apologies to everyone who contacted us about this issue.
Budget Windows
I know this has been covered before, but I can’t find the answer in prior issues. All of your builds quote $32 for Windows 10. Where can one buy an OEM license for Windows 10 for $32?

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, GUY COCKER, RESPONDS: There are a number of places you can buy a Windows license at that price (or less), as I had to do this month when putting together a new desktop system. We don’t recommend any particular retailers, but we base our figure on a few different key sellers, such as G2A. com, cjs-cdkeys.com, and kinguin.net. I’ve never had a problem when buying from such retailers, with the keys arriving within minutes after checkout. However, I make sure I always use a credit card so that there’s someone I can talk to in case of any problems, and obviously check sites like Trustpilot to make sure retailers are legitimate before purchase. Oh, and I’d personally be buying a Windows 11 license if I was building a new system in 2023, but any Windows 10 purchases should be eligible for a free upgrade.
