Nightwish: Finally onstage, and celebrating life

IT’S A GOOD night to be a fan of Finnish metal. Eccentric purveyors of disco-metal TURMION KÄTILÖT are on fine form and smash the language barrier by affably clowning about while they rip through danceable songs from the upcoming Omen X, closing with the industrial-flavoured Sikiö. Continuing the party vibe are the flamboyant power metallers BEAST IN BLACK, who, from the very first strains of opener Blade Runner, pepper their performance with choreographed guitar-lift moves, synchronised headbanging and timed jumps. It’s a bit OTT, but songs like the gloriously silly One Night In Tokyo do a great job of loosening fans up for the main event.
