CLUTCH
GREEN LUNG
Maryland’s rock standard-bearers return to the West Country in triumph
O2 ACADEMY, BRISTOL
Clutch: the perfect antidote to the winter blues
Green Lung are at full capacity
JANSON BULPIN
WHILE THE ACADEMY can be relied on to be an uncomfortably stuffy, sweaty venue no matter the season, the current cold snap pervades the walls. As such, even though the show is near capacity, it’s bloody freezing, with extra pressure on the bands to blast the chills away with the twin-assault of groove and riff.
You wouldn’t know that GREEN LUNG are celebrating their recent move to Nuclear Blast, given that every performance is a glorious celebration of 50 years of metallic tradition. From John Wright showing how every keyboard player should approach their role, to Tom Templar’s effortless stagecraft, the Londoners demonstrate how comfortable they are on any stage and in any company. Numbers from Black Harvest continue to steal the show, with Old Gods and a beckoning Leaders Of The Blind going down a storm accompanied by Scott Black’s beguiling leads.
