Non-profit organisation Metal For Nepal is working to help children in some of the country’s most remote regions become IT literate
WORDS: STEPHEN HILL
ON APRIL 25, 2015, a massive earthquake hit Nepal. Nearly 9,000 people died and more than eight million people were affected – roughly a quarter of the country’s population. Thousands in the capital, Kathmandu, had to sleep outside, and water and electricity was in short supply. Keen to help, members of Nepalese metal band Underside set up a fundraising drive and worked alongside other humanitarian organisations to help rebuild houses, with support pouring in from metal fans around the world. They called that campaign No Silence For Nepal, and have now grown into a charity called Metal For Nepal.
