Model Engineer  |  Vol. 211 No. 4468
In the latest issue of Model Engineer, our cover story shows Don Allen, from Rochdale SMEE, who will be bringing his 7¼" gauge Union Pacific Centennial DD40X to the Model Engineer Exhibition at Sandown Park in December.
As well as the usual news, views and comment on the world of model engineering in Smoke Rings, there is a exhibition sneak preview of an entry in the tooling classes of a Quorn tool and cutter grinder... just enough to whet the appetite! We've also printed the entry forms for those who need them.
Our features are varied: Rhys Owen visits a German steam railway in the Harz Mountains. James Lauder makes the engine of his dreams - a compound condensing marine engine and Alex DuPré makes some realistic components as he tackles alloy wheels and pneumatic tyres.
There's more on the ongoing projects front with Stewart Hart’s series for novice model engineers, making a simple mill engine, Neil Wyatt making the governor for a 1:12 scale 19th Century mill engine and John Smith continues his constructional series on the 1400 class GWR locomotive in 7¼" gauge.
Simon Davies works on a high speed spindle for small carbide tools, while Mick Knights completes the shaping machine refurbishment.
To round things off with our regular features, Geoff Theasby takes a look at what is happening in the clubs and there's also a comprehensive guide to forthcoming events. And don't forget our bulging postbag of reader letters!
Enjoy your read and good luck with your projects!
