Paul Chancellor turns his attention to the various iterations of InterCity livery, worn by Class 47/4s in the later years of British Rail and into privatisation.
In 1988, 47501
Craftsman,
is seen in the original version of InterCity sector livery, a scheme originally revealed on the ill-fated APT-P a decade earlier. The cabside TOPS numbers are of the standard size and the former headcode panels have been filled in with black paint, despite the fact that they bisect the yellow warning panels. Note also the orange cant rail level warning stripe.

PART 24: Class 47s in the InterCity era
When British Rail split itself into five distinct business sectors in the early 1980s, one of the most important was InterCity. By way of separating itself from the mundane ‘corporate’ colours of Rail blue and grey that had dominated the 1970s, InterCity adapted the vibrant livery first applied to the Class 370 APT-P units from 1978.
