By the time you read this, the last of the venerable Class 313 ‘PEP’ electric multiple units will have been withdrawn from passenger service and, almost certainly, sent for scrap.
Introduced in 1976, they pioneered a number of innovations, including dual voltage and power‐operated doors.
Operating in and around London, along with the similar Class 314s around Glasgow and ‘508s’ on Merseyside, the class has given solid service for nearly five decades.
