CORELESS UPGRADE FOR HORNBY
LOCOMOTIVES
00 GAUGE
Dutch firm Micromotor.eu has produced re-motoring packages for various ‘OO’ locomotive models over the past couple of years. The latest release is aimed at replacing the Chinese-made 401 motor which has been fitted to hundreds of recent steam-outline Hornby models, ‘Royal Scot’ and ‘Coronation’ class and many more, including the Class 08 diesel shunter.
The conversion kit consists of a 20mm long by 10mm diameter coreless motor with twin output shafts, plus a slimline brass flywheel and a 3D-printed adaptor sleeve.
The Hornby worm gear is re-used, with two sleeve collars provided to suit different inside diameters, while a pair of power cables are provided, plus heat shrink tubing. We’ll test it out in a future issue, but the conversion kit is available now, exclusively through Peter’s Spares.
