What is it?
Designed by John Aspinall and built at the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway’s Horwich Works, the Class 27 0 ‐ 6‐0 became the ‘standard’ freight locomotive of the L&Y. A total of 484 examples were constructed between 1889-1918 and featured twin inside cylinders, Joy valve gear and, initially, round-top boilers.
