The Ohio composer’s last album, 2022’s Words And Silences, matched recordings of theologian Thomas Merton to chamber music, and this follow-up only intensifies his work’s delicate emotional heft. Harnetty creates a threnody for his late father out of voice messages, the watches and music boxes he mended, and his sleeping breaths in a hospice, underpinned by bass clarinet, violin, cello and piano. Dignified, meticulous, profoundly moving sound art.
