HELLO, IT’S ME
Lenny Kravitz
Let Love Rule
★★★★ (VIRGIN, 1989)
The influences were obvious – Around The World In A Day-era Prince, Sly Stone, Spirit, Hendrix – but an album on which Kravitz produced and played almost everything introduced a precocious talent. For all that precocity, Let Love Rule’s power lay in Kravitz’s songwriting, as he veered from the pyrotechnics of the title track, the themes of which Kravitz is still exploring, to the pop-psychedelia of the lavishly arranged I Build This Garden For Us.
