The Croz is sent down
Long time gone?: David Crosby and guard at the Texas Department of Corrections.
MARCH 6 After an appeals process fails, David Crosby begins an eight-year prison sentence at the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville after being arrested in Dallas in 1982 for possession of cocaine and a firearm. Crosby tells Bam magazine a year later that the authorities immediately gave him a severe haircut but allowed him to sing and play guitar in the prison music room, where he joins the convict band and writes songs, sustained by letters from his loyal partner Jan, Graham Nash and others. He also starts to withdraw from crack and heroin addiction. “It’s a lousy way to kick,” he tells Bam magazine. “But… I’m alive.” He’s paroled in August, and later credits his imprisonment for his sobriety.
