TENNESSEE COUNTRY SINGER-SONGWRITER
MELBA MONTGOMERY (below, b.1938) helped popularise the male-female duet format in country when her deep, vibrant voice was paired on albums with Charlie Louvin and George Jones. With the latter, she wrote their first hit We Must Have Been Out Of Our Minds in 1963. Solo successes included 1975’s Don’t Let The Good Times Fool You. An enduring talent, she continued writing until 2010.
VOCALIST JOHN DOMINIC (b.1938) led hip London beat combo The Bo Street Runners from 1963 to ’65, starting a lifelong friendship with their drummer Mick Fleetwood. When Mike Patto replaced him, ‘JD’ worked in advertising, casting pal David Bowie in the 1969 TV ad for Lyons Maid ice cream directed by Ridley Scott. In later years, he’d join Deborah Bonham on-stage.
