THE FIRST CD that accompanied an issue of MOJO was, it’s fair to say, something of a false start. MOJO 45, in the summer of 1997, came with a cover promising the 100 Greatest Singles Of All Time, and a CD packaged to look like a vintage 7-inch. Its contents were enigmatic but revealed themselves to be Good Vibrations – the Greatest Single Of All Time, according to MOJO’s electorate – plus two more Beach Boys classics and a Brian Wilson interview. A lovely artefact, for sure, but scant indication of what was to come.
