Beach Boys vibrate
Good times: The Beach Boys (from left) Bruce Johnston, Brian Wilson and Mike Love go for a ride in ’66.
OCTOBER 10 The Beach Boys release their astonishing 45 Good Vibrations. Created over eight months and multiple studio sessions, with innovative use of Electro-Theremin and orchestration, it receives enthusiastic critical reaction. While attuned to countercultural spirituality, Mike Love’s lyrics ensured its accessibility. From October 25 the band tour Europe, hitting the UK on November 6 for a show at the Finsbury Park Astoria. “Brian [Wilson] asked us to look out for a cathedral organ for the new album,” writes Good Vibrations lead singer Carl Wilson in a letter to fans in Disc & Music Echo, adding that his brother will be absent from the tour, in the studio. Brian is working on the

LP, which is finally completed in re-recorded form in 2004.
