Amateur radio operators will set up at An Cridhe on Coll.
Members of Kilmarnock and Loudoun Amateur Radio Club will visit Coll for a worldwide radio competition which takes place over the last weekend of July.
Seven radio amateurs will set up a transmitting station in the island’s An Cridhe community centre and will be in contact with similar radio stations throughout the world. The competition is a 24- hour event and runs from 1pm on Saturday July 28 until 1pm the following day and both telephony and Morse code will be used. The group will use wire aerials, which will be erected behind the centre, and all activity will be on shortwave frequencies. Group member Bill Strachan from Ballachulish has already visited the centre and says An Cridhe will be a great location for the radio station set-up. Visitors will be welcome to drop in and see how many worldwide contacts have been made.
