The walkers after last year’s hike.
Oban Coastguard volunteers will set off on a two-day walk to Skye next month in memory of colleague Ali MacNab, who died from cancer. The team will leave Oban early on Thursday September 6 to walk to Edinbane on Skye via Mallaig and Portree. So far crowdfunding on justgiving.com/fundraising/iain-mackinnon3 has brought in £370.
A key member of the town’s Coastguard Rescue Team, Ali died in January 2016 aged 48. ‘By supporting Cancer Research UK, we hope that a cure will be found and further deaths prevented. It is off en said that only the good die young. This was most certainly the case when it came to Ali’s passing,’ said Iain MacKinnon. Last year a team of Ali’s colleagues hiked from Pulpit Hill, where there is a bench in his memory, to Edinbane, raising £6,500. The distance is about 180 miles.
