Jam making
If you’re looking to use up some of those late-summer fruits, why not try your hand at preserving? Jams, chutneys and marmalades are a great way to get creative in the kitchen, and they make lovely gifts as well!
You’ll need sterilised jars (make use of old jam and sauce jars rather than buying new ones), fruits, and sugar. Think carefully about which fruits you’ll pair together, not only because of flavours, but because you need to think about pectin levels. Pectin occurs naturally in fruit, but levels can vary, so lowpectin options (soft fruits like strawberries and peaches) will have to be paired with fruits like blackberries or apples, which have higher levels. You may need lemon juice as well, depending on the fruit you’ve chosen.
