Astana consistently took victories in 2020, but Miguel Ángel López’s Tour stage win atop the Col de la Loze was a highlight. Only a poor TT cost him and Astana a spot on the podium in Paris. Unfortunately for the Kazakh outfit, the Colombian has moved to Movistar, with grand tour leadership set to fall upon Jakob Fuglsang and sprightly young climber Aleksandr Vlasov. The Russian showed his potential with a podium finish at Lombardia, while Fuglsang took the win. Vlasov also finished just outside the top 10 at the Vuelta and he won the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé. López’s departure may give him the room for manoeuvre that he needs.
