WORLD CUP DENDERMONDE
Belgium
27 DECEMBER 2020
Tom Pidcock battles the elements and the mud in the Dendermonde round of the cyclo-cross World Cup. The passing of Storm Bella left the ground sodden and the conditions very heavy. The Ineos Grenadiers’ 2021 signing would eventually pull out after losing ground to the favourites, while the habitual close battle between Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel was unusually one-sided. The Belgian was much better on the day, and he left Van der Poel almost three minutes in arrears in a riotous race. Pidcock, a young Leodensian, will join his Ineos team in March, where he will hope to build on his victory in the U23 Giro d’Italia last year.
