There can be no doubt that the strongest rider won the 2021Tour de France. Tadej Pogačcar has been displaying Merckx-like tendencies and consistency in stage races ever since he won last year’s yellow jersey, and his passage through this year’s race looked almost serene. He won the first time trial and the two hardest summit finishes of the race, and there was one single tiny moment of weakness, so close to the top of Mont Ventoux as to make no difference, in the three weeks.
