Issue 208 is out now
This month we’re featuring a cover shot by master photographer Rankin no less, and it’s taken from a major new show that’s just opened in Germany that features some of his most telling portrait work from the past fifteen years. In a revealing interview Rankin tells us how he approaches studio sessions that have included the likes of HM The Queen, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones, and the technique he uses for putting his subjects at ease and getting them to collaborate on producing the very best images possible. Tips from the top that are not be missed! We’re also featuring a remarkable set of wildlife images from some of the world’s top exponents, who all feature in a book ‘The New Big 5,’ whose purpose is to highlight the top five species that people want to photograph rather than hunt for trophies. The instigator of the project is Graeme Green, a wildlife photographer himself, and he’s explaining why it’s so important to raise awareness about the many species that we’re now at severe danger of losing if we go on the way we are. Elsewhere in this issue we’re starting a major new series in collaboration with Datacolor, which will build up into an unmissable new e-book that will teach you the basics of colour management, while Richard Bradbury is talking about his recent experience of switching camera systems, and he’s passing on invaluable tips on ways you can move across with the minimum of upheaval. Our big camera review this month is the brand-new Canon EOS R8, while we’re also running a major lighting special that casts an expert eye over the latest lights from the likes of Aputure, Zhiyun, Nanlite and Hobolite, and we’re also taking a look at the latest lighting power solutions from Core. It’s another epic issue that’s bursting with content, so dive in and take a look around!
