PROGRESSIVE FOLK
Paul Sexton dials up some pastoral sounds from both sides of the Atlantic.

Ned Roberts’ third album Dream Sweetheart (Aveline) opens on the bucolic strings of Falling Away, which fan out into a slow, steady beat. The London-based singer-writer’s light vocals complement gorgeous guitar textures throughout. Cut in LA, the set continues his fruitful pairing with producer Luther Russell and draws on a panoply of sonic ingredients, including the cicada chirruping behind Miles Between and the train running through Stay A Little Longer. Others like Wrong Side Of You are instant charmers. No wonder national UK press and 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne are avowed fans.
